Are regular eye tests really important?

February 17, 2017

Having an eye test is not just about reading a chart to determine what you can see. An eye test can detect many health problems such as high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as various eye conditions including Glaucoma, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Cataracts and many more.

If there is a history of any eye disease in your family, regular eye tests are very important because most conditions tend to run in families.

For example, the leading cause of blindness is glaucoma, research has shown this common condition runs in families. Glaucoma does not always present with any symptoms and is only detectable during an eye test. Anyone is at risk of developing glaucoma, particularly those aged 40 or over.

The Glaucoma Research Foundation says at the current time there are over 60 million people worldwide with glaucoma. Most interesting, about half of the people who have glaucoma don’t even know it.

We strongly recommend including an eye test as part of your annual health care routine to ensure optimal health, as well as the best possible vision throughout your life.
